Personalized URLs (PURLs), used to be really expensive. The “other guys” would also like to make you think that they are complicated. I’m here to tell you that using PURLs are not only extremely simple, but affordable as well!
Here are some tips for using PURLs on a budget:
- Spend time refining your mailing list
Although boring and monotonous, this will likely be your most well-spent time in creating your PURL campaign. With a more clean and targeted mailing list, you will not only see better response and conversion rates, but you will also keep your cost down by sending out less mail.
- Print Yourself
You may be familiar with the mail merge feature in Microsoft Word and other word processors. Using these features, you can easily pull in the PURL for each recipient. This technique works great if you are printing on paper or an envelope. If you are using Postcards, you’ll probably be better of going through a printer. I have done a tutorial on using Microsoft Word and Photoshop to print your own PURLs
- Use MailChimp for Email
If you are going to be sending your PURLs via email, then consider using MailChimp. The have a Forever Free plan as long as you have less than 2,000 people in your mailing list.
- Use Purlem’s Templates
By far, the most time-consuming (and expensive) part of a PURL campaign will be actually designing the Personalized Landing Page itself. If you have a specific design in mind, there may not be any way around hiring somebody to design the HTML page for you. However, if your on a budget and want to get up and running quickly, Purlem’s templates are a great and affordable solution.
By following the tips above, you’ll be able to create a fully functional PURL campaign for the cost of the paper, envelopes and stamps. If your using email, you can give PURLs a try for FREE. That’s zero dollars to test out one of the most powerful marketing tactics of this century. You have nothing to loose but a couple hours of time, and a hole lot of potential business gain!
